Lake Houston Rotarians, family, and friends gathered together with other community volunteers at Sleep in Heavenly Peace in north Houston on February 24th to build beds for area children who don’t have a bed of their own. These volunteers built cargo style bunk beds by manning 15 different work stations. Each station has a specialty including carrying lumber to the other work stations, sawing, drilling, sanding, assembling and branding the individual pieces used to assemble the bed.

Dozens of Lake Houston Rotarians, family, friends and other community volunteers gathered together on Saturday, February 24th morning at Sleep in Heavenly Peace in north Houston to build beds for area children who don’t have a bed of their own.

Cargo style bunk beds were built by volunteers who manned 15 different work stations. Each station specializes in handing wood off, cutting, drilling, sanding, assembling and branding the individual pieces used to assemble the bed.

No previous experience is needed to be a volunteer as SHP staff provides the tools and training needed to help volunteers complete the work assigned safely and efficiently.

The goal was to build 30-60 beds so they can be delivered the following weekend. Final assembly is completed upon delivery. SHP also provides mattresses, bedding and pillows with the beds.

Volunteers are needed to build beds most Saturdays and one Saturday a month for delivery in the greater Humble area. To volunteer visit SHP’s website at https://shpbeds.org (Look for the north Houston chapter.)
