Jose Will Tell Us About His Homeland, Brazil, On Wednesday November 19th
Bio. for Jose Martins – Inbound RYE Student from Brazil 2014-2015
Humble Rotary Club is proud to host and recruit Rotary Youth Exchange Students each year!
Jose Martins Costa Neto (his full name) is an Inbound Long Term Rotary Youth Exchange Student from Paracatu, Brazil; asmall gold mining town in Brazil that is some 200 km from Brasilia, the capital of Brazil. Jose has never traveled outside his country so it is a big undertaking for him to leave family, friends, and native language to venture to another country for almost a year’s time. Jose’s father is a locksmith and his mother is a bank teller. Both parents recently joined The Rotary Club of Paracatu, having realized through Jose’s Rotary Youth Exchange preparation experience what a great organization Rotary International is and thereby fulfilling both parents’ desires to help others all over the world.
This year Jose (pronounced Joe-zay) will live with more than one host families in order to experience a variety in home life and to more fully learn about Texas and American culture. He will be in the Humble area for 11 months and will attend Atascocita High School. His parents have expressed great pride in Jose and describe him as “obedient, studious, and careful”. Jose enjoys biking, basketball, reading and socializing with his new friends; making friends at school is one of the best parts of a student’s exchange. All of Rotary International’s exchange students are very brave, venturing thousands of miles from home in a desire to learn a language and culture that is foreign to theirsyet knowing the experience and language gains will be huge assets as they pursue their life and future careers. In August every year, through International Rotary Youth Exchange over8000 students go on an educational exchange, taking on all the challenges and experiences a year away from home in a foreign country can bring.
Jose is hosted by The Rotary club of Humble - the premier Rotary club in the Lake Houston area. Humble Rotary has a strong Rotary Youth Exchange program. Each week Jose love’s to attend the Humble Rotary’s weekly Wednesday noon meetings as he finds it valuable to build relationships with Rotarians. Humble Rotary provides counselors for all theirinbound students. The maticulous efforts expended in finding, vetting and following willing host families is the backbone of the superb strength of the Rotary Youth Exchange program; without our great host families students like Jose could not be part of our great culture here in the Humble area.
