Humble Intercontinental Receives Positive Exposure at Annual District Conference
Read all the details in a Report from Bill Davis.
Our club received positive exposure at the Conference attended by over 350 Rotarians and friends.
Former Ambassadorial Scholar to Nepal, and head of our water project in San Salvador a few years ago, Brian Davis came over from his graduate studies at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Co. and presented a 30 minute summary of his 2 1/2 years in Nepal which included his successful application to Austria to fund a $400,000 program to enhance the facilities of his University in Nepal.
Nathalie Cras, daughter of Philippe and Meike, received a $2,500 scholarship from our District in recognition of her outstanding work heading up the activities of Rotaract in our District.
Video slides reflected Isis Mejias working on our $49,000 Global Grant in Kenya. Other video included the distribution of warm clothing to the children of women imprisoned in Kabul, Afghanistan, a project initiated by Nicole Heydari and an American Doctor working with our forces in Afghanistan. Our club contributed financially to this project spearheaded by Felipe LaRotta.
District Governor Suresh Pahwa from D5870 (Austin) and Bill Davis outlined the partnership of our two districts which produced a $97,000 project to provide bed nets and water filters to help protect the children of Togo in Sub Sahara, Africa from Malaria.
Twenty seven clubs in our district, including our club, contributed in excess of $18,000 to this Global Grant.
Our two Districts also combined on a Matching Grant in the amount of $43,000 to fund school lunches and the purchase of a used school bus for the Children of the Dump in Chinandega, Nicaragua.
A hi-lite of every Conference is the introduction of each of the twenty three exchange students based in our district. As their names are called, their home country and host Rotary club identified, the students enter one by one bearing the flag of their home country. Thank you Nathalie, Evelyne and Pauline Cras for driving Kai-faar and Ivan to the conference and to Alan Derby for driving them home on Sunday.
